as my due date approaches, this was another project on my rather lengthy list that i wanted to tackle.
not being overly blessed on the top half of my body, finding a nursing bra that fits well is next to impossible. after ordering – and returning – a couple different styles, and not wanting to pay an arm and a leg, i decided to go the cut it up customize route.
i was a little nervous, but this project took 10 minutes max from start to finish, so have no fear, grab a needle and thread, take a deep breath and follow along.
supply list:
(1) bra
(2) sets of nursing clasp in a width and color that matches your bra straps – i ordered the 3/8″ size from Sew Sassy
soft elastic a similar width and color as your bra straps – i ordered this from Sew Sassy as well
scissors
needle
thread
Directions:
start with a bra that you love – one that fits great and is comfortable.
you’ll also need the nursing bras clips (see supply list) – this is vital – and the soft elastic
now for the scary part – cut your straps off close to the cup, leaving a small length, about 1/2″, attached to the cup. This will be what you sew the nursing clasp front onto.
push the 1/2″ bra strap through the nursing clasp front and stitch. I found this easier to do with a needle and thread than on the sewing machine.
thread the long bra strap through the top slot in the nursing clasp back; stitch
to keep from losing your bra strap, we now need to add the elastic. thread the end of the soft elastic through the one open slot remaining on the clasp back and stitch
position the elastic so that it runs along the side of the bra cup and cut off the extra length – stitch the elastic to the bottom of the bra cup
and you did it – good work!
