i want to preface these pictures of our upstairs, and really the rest of our house, by saying that the last thing i want to do is have it look like i’m bragging. our home is far from perfect and far from clean and tidy 24-7. we’ve got little handprints on walls, dinged up wood work, toys scattered here a there, usually a few dishes in the sink….you get the idea.
when we were starting the building process, i spent hours (honestly, probably hundreds of hours) online, researching, searching, comparing, borrowing ideas from other people etc. my hope is that i can return the favor, offer my two cents, and answer any questions you may have.
did we do it all perfect, not at all.
did we makes mistakes – yup.
would we change anything, well, we really just try to not allow ourselves to dwell on that, but instead on what we do appreciate – a person could drive themselves batty otherwise.
would i do it again – ask me in a couple more years and i’ll most likely say yes (similar to child birth; it takes awhile to forget the pain)
i think there are a lot of misconceptions about building. one thing i heard a lot was “wow, you can have just you want!” while there is a grain of truth in this, we were working on a budget and clint and i can have very different personalities, so usually there was a plan a, b, c,….z. (an idea or two would be two expensive, we’d dial it down, clint wouldn’t like it, it wouldn’t be possible or realistic and so on )
we were able to save some cost by selling our old home first, and renting during the building process, doing some projects ourselves, ( we did some of the floors, clint did some of the trim ) and being willing to not have everything at once. honestly, we used mostly furniture from our old home, and that’s ok – it’s not perfect but it works just fine.
anyho’, if you’re interested, here’s a quick tour of our upstairs, and if not, that’s totally fine too. i realize that not all people love design and decorating, so if this bores you to tears, just move right on to something else
